Song Voted President
of County Board of Education
SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Board of Education on Wednesday
elected its officers for the upcoming year. Anna Song, who first was elected to
the board in 2000, was named president, and Grace Mah was named vice president.
Anna Song, who was re-elected to her seat on the board in 2004 and 2008, has
experience in counseling, youth education, domestic violence intervention and
fair housing enforcement. She serves on the board’s Joint Legislative Advisory
Committee, Policy Development Subcommittee and Joint Committee on Child Care.
Grace Mah was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the board in 2007, and then
won an election for the position in 2008. She has been a parent volunteer, and
an author of a proposal for a Mandarin immersion program. She serves on the
board’s Policy Development Subcommittee and Head Start Policy Council.
Along with fellow Board Member Joseph Di Salvo, Song put forth an idea
earlier this year for a summit on charter schools. The board then commissioned a
Charter School Task Force, co-chaired by Song and Di Salvo. Mah also is a member
of the Task Force.
The
Charter School Summit, which is being
facilitated by the COE Charter Schools Department, will be held January 30 at
the County Office of Education.
