ADVISORY: 2009 Career Technical Education Conference
Connecting Students to School, College and Careers
Event: More than 200 school administrators, teachers, counselors and business
partners will gather to explore the technical skills students need to enter
today’s workforce and the best ways to connect students with on-the-job training
and career education programs.
When: 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2009.
Where: Santa Clara County Office of Education, 1290 Ridder Park Drive, San
Jose
Who: Ken Kay, President of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, and
Bernie Trilling, Global Director of Education Strategy & Partnership for Oracle
Education Foundation, will present the keynote address, “Preparing Every Child
for the 21st Century.”
What: Workshops will focus on: how to engage students and keep them in
school; what school districts can do to provide relevant curriculum and training
for the 21st Century workplace; and partnerships with colleges and businesses to
connect students to career pathways.
Background: The County Office’s Career Technical Education (CTE) program
brings students, teachers, administrators and employers together to strengthen
the relationship between what's being taught in the classroom and its
application in the workplace.
