San Antonio Head Start
Center's Grand Opening
SAN JOSE, CA – The grand opening of the San Antonio Head Start center,
which will serve low-income families in the Alum Rock area by providing a
preschool, kindergarten-readiness program for 3- and 4-year-old children, will
be held Friday, September 19 at 10 a.m.
The center, located at 1803 Stowe Ave., will also serve children with
disabilities and provide families with support services geared towards
self-sufficiency and community advocacy.
The Santa Clara County Office of Education oversees the program. The opening
of this center was achieved through the support and collaboration of the San
Jose Library, Smart Start program, Alum Rock Union School District, the SCCOE
and the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and
Families.
The Friday ceremony will feature officials and staff representing the San
Jose City Council, the San Jose Library, the Library Commission and Alum Rock
Union. Children from the center will be singing songs they have learned since
school started.
The SCCOE is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to
provide Head Start services to 2,150 Head Start eligible preschool age children
in Santa Clara and San Benito Counties. Head Start centers are located in most
cities in the two-county area, including San Jose, Santa Clara, Campbell,
Mountain View, Milpitas, Gilroy, and Hollister.
