Weis Assumes ACSA Presidency

SAN JOSE--Dr. Charles Weis, Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools, will be sworn in on May 14 for a one-year term as president of the Association of California School Administrators.

ACSA is the largest umbrella organization for school leaders in the nation, serving more than 16,000 school leader members. Its mission is to support California’s educational leaders; to ensure that all students have the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel; and to champion public education.

As president, Weis will attend and speak at ACSA functions; visit the 19 ACSA regions in California; attend meetings with the governor and other legislative and education leaders on behalf of the group; and lead a delegation of ACSA leaders to Washington, D.C.

During the year, he will also maintain his duties as county superintendent.

"I am honored to serve my colleagues and the children of California as ACSA President,” Weis said. “My year will be focused on inspiring leadership for our changing world, and securing sufficient funding to enable California's public education system to lead the nation and the world."

Weis has been active in ACSA for many years in several roles, most recently as president-elect. This is his second opportunity at a statewide leadership role in education. He served as president of the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association in 2002.

As ACSA president he replaces Frank Gomez, superintendent of the San Pasqual Union School District in Escondido.

“Charles Weis is a highly respected superintendent and his leadership will greatly benefit ACSA,” said Bob Wells, ACSA executive director. “He will help lead the work that must be done to redefine our public schools for the changing world.”
