Classified Employees of the Year
Five classified school employees were honored at the Santa Clara County Board
of Education meeting April 2, 2009.
The five were: Adeline Arce ( ), Santa Clara County Office of Education (Child
Nutrition); Toan Phuong ( ), Fremont Union High School District (Office and
Technical); Amelia Miramontes ( ), Oak Grove School District (Para-Educator and
Instructional Assistance); Mery Cheung ( ), Metropolitan Education District (Support
Services and Security); and Per Sorensen ( ), Oak Grove School District
(Transportation).
A sixth honoree, Richard Valdez ( ), of San Jose Unified (Maintenance and
Operations) is to be honored at the board’s May 6 meeting.
The program pays tribute to the efforts of classified school employees, who are
vital staff members in creating a school environment that promotes student
achievement, safety, and health.
Districts from throughout the county had submitted nominations of classified
employees to the SCCOE. The districts were required to submit three letters of
recommendation on behalf of each nominee. The SCCOE then submitted names of one
person in each of the six categories to the California Department of Education.
The CDE named statewide winners on April 22.
