CLASS TITLE: Database Administrator

DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform data base development and data base warehouse system and support to the County Office of Education and districts; to conduct data base needs assessments, to maintain existing data base systems; to ensure the integrity of database systems; to find software solutions for the integration of data base systems; and to perform the installation and upgrade of data base related products, and to perform related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

A Data Base Administrator performs highly complex technical and specialized duties related to the effective implementation of data base systems designed to meet the information system needs of County Office of Education. Employees in this classification receive indirect supervision within a broad framework of policies and objectives.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS

Certification in data base administration specializing in MS/SQL or any other equivalent data base systems (ORACLE, SAP, DB2, Informix, Sybase, Business Objects) and UNIX/LINUX or Windows Server system administration is preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Generally, any combination of education and experience that could provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical method of demonstrating these requirements would be:

BARGAINING UNIT: Office, Technical, and Business Services (OTBS) Unit

WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this class, the incumbent regularly works in an indoor office; may be required to drive to various sites operated by the County Office of Education, and may be required to work extended hours as needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform assigned duties; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store supplies; lifting and moving heavy objects.
