Federal, Foundation and Local Funding Opportunities
TOBACCO USE PREVENTION AND EDUCATION (TUPE), TIER 1 GRANT
The TUPE, Tier 1 grant offers Local Educational Agencies an opportunity to receive up to $4,500.00 to support the administration of the California Healthy Kids Survey and to enforce the tobacco free policy. This grant is a three year grant with the funds to be allocated over 3 years. Only Tobacco Free Certified LEA's may apply for this grant.
To determine if your district is certified as Tobacco Free, you may visit the CDE website at: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/he/at/tobaccofreecert.asp. If you are a district that is not yet tobacco free certified, please note that the process to become certified is very straightforward. Once certified you can apply for future TUPE funding. The SCCOE will be sponsoring a training for districts interested in learning more about the certification process on February 10th. You may register at: http://santaclara.k12oms.org/.

*The TUPE Tier 2 Grant will be released in late October. The Tier 2 grant offers LEA's an opportunity to receive funding to provide tobacco education to grades 6-12. You may either apply for a Tier 1 or a Tier 2 grant, you may not apply for both.
THE LEGO CHILDREN'S FUND GRANT
The LEGO Children's Fund will provide quarterly grants for programs with a special interest paid to collaborative efforts and in providing matching funds to leverage new dollars into the receiving organization. Focus areas include: early childhood education and development; technology and communication projects; and sport or athletic programs that concentrate on under-served youth. Priority is given to programs in communities where Lego operates with a special focus given to organizations serving Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. The NEA Foundation and Nickelodeon joined for
the Big Help Grants program which is dedicated to the development and
implementation of ideas, techniques, and approaches to addressing four key
concerns: environmental awareness, health and wellness, students' right to a
quality public education, and active community involvement. Grants are available in the form of
Student Achievement grants of up to $5,000. Eligibility
includes public school teachers in grades Pre K-12, public school education
support professionals or faculty and staff at public higher education
institutions in the U.S.

YES TO SEEDS-K-12 SCHOOL GARDEN GRANTS
Up to five Seed Fund grants of $2,000 will
be available to participating Whole Foods regions (CA) and five Starter
Garden grants of $500 to schools nationwide will be available.
All schools in the U.S. are eligible for the additional five Starter Seed
Fund Grants. Applying schools should have a pre-existing commitment to gardening

RESPONSIVE GRANTS PROGRAM
The Sierra Health Foundation invites applications for the Responsive Grants Program. This program focuses on improving health and the quality of life for Northern Californians.
Projects include increasing physical
activity among youth and education. A total of $600,000 is available for
grants up to $25,000 each. Eligible organizations include nonprofits and
public agencies in the foundations 26 county funding region. Specific
counties can be found on the Foundation's website.

The Sharks Foundation
The Sharks Foundation provides $20,000-$25,000 grants for youth or youth and their families, with special emphasis towards underserved populations and at-risk youth. Each grant must fall into one of our focus areas of giving: Education, Health & Safety, or Character Development.
Funding
must be applied to the costs associated with a specific project or programming
element of an organization.

Depot Grants for Volunteerism
Home Depot is awarding up to $5,000 in the form of store credit to purchase
tools, materials or services to organizations that use volunteers to improve
the physical health of their community. Nonprofits and tax-exempt public
schools or public agencies are eligible to apply. Organizations with projects
that focus on veterans, seniors and/or the disabled are especially encouraged

Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation (National)
The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation provides direct support for children in the areas of health and wellness. The Foundation's goal is to provide grants to help many programs that are working hard to make the world a healthier and happier place for kids. For 2011, children's health and wellness grant applications will be accepted March to October and will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Ben & Jerry’s Foundation: National Grassroots Grant Program
Through the National Grassroots Grant Program, Ben & Jerry's Foundation grant program aims to further social justice, protect the environment and support sustainable food systems. Grants of up to $15,000 are provided to grassroots, constituent-led organizations that are using community organizing strategies to accomplish their goals as well as organizations that provide technical support and/or resources to such groups.

AcademyHealth Invites Nominations for Health Services Research Impact Award
Deadline for Applications: July 31, 2012
AcademyHealth,
a professional society for health services researchers and health policy
analysts, is seeking nominations of health services research that has made a
positive impact on health policy and/or practice for the 2012 HSR Impact Award.
The lead researcher on the winning project will receive $2,000, while the
research itself will be disseminated widely as part of AcademyHealth's ongoing
efforts to promote the field of health services research and communicate its
value for healthcare decision-making. The award will be announced at the 2012
National Health Policy Conference (February 13-14), to which the winner will
receive complimentary conference registration as well as travel and lodging.
Nominated research may be published or unpublished, a single study or a
body of work, and/or the work of an individual or a team. The time frame for
when the research was conducted is open, but its impact should have occurred
recently. Nominations will be evaluated on the quality of the research,
effectiveness of the research dissemination and translation approach, and
impact of the research. Self-nominations will be accepted. Neither nominators
nor nominees are required to be AcademyHealth members.

Golf Program Grants for People with Disabilities

Applications are reviewed the last day of each month in 2011 The United States
Golf Association (USGA) and the National Alliance for Accessible Golf
(Alliance) are working together to provide financial assistance and resources
to help make the game of golf more accessible through a grant program for
organizations providing golf programs for individuals with disabilities.
Preference will be given to applications that demonstrate focus on
inclusion of people with disabilities in programs that involve those without
disabilities with the ultimate goal of enhancing their inclusion into the
fabric of their community. Applications on a rolling basis in 2011. There are
no specific deadlines for grant submission.

U.S. Tennis Association Facility Assistance and Funding Available

The USTA provides numerous resources to communities who are renovating existing
tennis facilities as well as building new ones. Some of the resources include:
concept drawings, bid specifications, construction and maintenance manuals, and
programming assistance for maximum court utilization. There are three distinct
grant categories of funding:1. Basic facility improvements such as fencing or
lighting (up to $4,000 which must be matched dollar for dollar); 2. Resurfacing
of existing courts in public tennis facilities (up to 20% of total project cost
or grant maximum of $35,000 and 3. New construction or existing facility
reconstruction and expansion (up to 20% of total project cost or grant maximum
of $50,000)

Finish Line, an athletic retailer specializing in brand name footwear, apparel
and accessories, supports athletic and wellness programs located in communities
where their stores are located. The foundation funds projects registered as
501 (c) (3) organizations; have a primary focus on assisting children and young
adults 18 and under; concentrate on athletics or wellness; and benefit
communities in which Finish Line stores are located.

SCHOOL-BASED RUNNING GRANT PROGRAMS
Deadline: May 15, 2012
ING is partnering with the National Association
for Sport and Physical Education to provide funding for school running
programs. The purpose of this grant program is to establish a school-based
running program or expand an existing one.
A minimum of 50 grants of up to $2,500 are available for eligible applicants.
Elementary and middle schools with at least 25 students committed to the
program are eligible to apply.

Active Schools Acceleration Project Grant
DEADLINE: APRIL 2, 2012
First Lady Michelle Obama announced a new national competition that will identify and reward the most creative, impactful, and scalable school-based programs and technological innovations that promote physical activity for children. The contest is sponsored by the Active Schools Acceleration Project in collaboration with the Partnership for a Healthier America and will award a total of $500,000 in prizes, with individual awards of up to $100,000. Top winners will participate in funded pilot studies aimed at expanding the reach and impact of the projects. Applications are due April 2, 2012. Office of Traffic Safety Grant
DEADLINE: April 6, 2012
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) has announced its 2012 grant cycle. OTS administers traffic safety funds to local and state public agencies for programs that help enforce traffic laws, educate the public in traffic safety, and provide varied and effective means of reducing fatalities, injuries and economic losses from collisions. Bicycle Transportation Account Call for Projects

Caltrans has announced its 2012-13 Bicycle Transportation Account (BTA) Call for Projects. The BTA is an annual program providing state funds for city and county projects that improve safety and convenience for bicycle commuters. Projects must be designed and developed to achieve commuting and safety needs of all bicyclists. Applications are due April 27, 2012. School Grants for Healthy Kids

Through partners such as Kellogg's and the Walmart Foundation, Action for Healthy Kids is pleased to release its School Grants for Healthy Kids opportunities for the 2012-2013 school year. Over 500 schools will be awarded funds that will range from $1,000 to $5,000 with significant in-kind contributions from Action for Healthy Kids in the form of people, programs, and school nutrition expertise.
